Aberaeron in Watercolours

A couple of scenes from the pictuesque harbour town Nr home.

Aberaeron Harbour

Anyone who has been to Aberaeron will know how many houses there are packed in tight together, so as I wanted this painting to be about the boats and reflections I paid little attetion to the houses and painted them a one large shape, this also adds distance to the scene and a misty atmospheric feeling to the painting.

As with the scene above there is a very busy background and it would be easy to fall into the trap of over doing it, the focus is on the figures and the waters edge. I liked the way the distant houses linked up with the middle and foreground on this piece.

I look forward to getting down into Aberaeron with my easel for some plein air painting once the risk of snow has gone!
